Color Theory Workshop

On Saturday, April 18, 2015, the Chapter hosted a color theory workshop at House of Stitches in LaPorte, Indiana.

Marj led the group in an EGA Petite Project called Colorplay,
designed by Erica M. Cannon.
The class project involved identifying colors in overdyed threads,
and then choosing a color family that was 'missing'
from the overdyed fibers along with two adjacent color families.
Members worked on a small project to see how colors change
when grouped with other colors, or stitched on different backgrounds.

This is Marj, Linda (owner of House of Stitches) and
Renee, NANI President.

And here are the participants, from left to right:
Amy, Becky, Claudia, Diana, Renee, Marj, Carol and Marge.

Everyone had a great time and learned a lot about color.
There may also have been some stash enhancement going on,
but that is just a rumor!

Two Important February Dates

Two important dates are coming up in February.

Flowers from my Needle Workshop

Our February 4, 2014 meeting is the deadline to sign up for Flowers from my Needle, our Spring workshop/luncheon.  The NANI and Waterfall Glen Chapters of the EGA are sponsoring this event, which will take place at Olympia Fields Country Club on May 3, 2014.  The fee is $84, which includes the canvaswork kit, workshop, a continental breakfast and buffet luncheon.  An optional wooden box to display the piece is $40.

This is the From Nancy's Needle design that we will be stitching, taught by Nancy herself.

This is the autumn colorway.

Stitch-in-Public Day

Our second important February date is Saturday, February 15, 2014:  Stitch-in-Public Day.  We will be at the Dyer-Schererville Branch of the Lake County (IN) Public Library, 1001 W. Ukrainian Embroidery Workshop

Teacher:
*Terri Bay

In stitching this ornament, you will learn the basics of Ukrainian Whitework and the Mereshka Poltavska technique.  The ornament is approximately four inches square when finished, using 25-count linen +perle cotton.

In class, we will learn the Mereshka, and discover the joys of the most often used stitch in Ukrainian Whitework - the eyelet!  As tension is critical in this style of needlework, use of a Q-snap or hoop is strongly advised.

The kit includes:  25-ct linen, perle cotton, needle + detailed instructions.

Students will need to bring:  In addition to usual stitching supplies, please bring a hoop or q-snap and sharp embroidery scissors.

Cost of workshop for kit and food:
$45.00 (members)
$55.00 (non-members)

Workshop  Schedule
8:30 Registration
(Coffee + Danish)
9:00 Class begins
(Lunch:  Soup + Salad Bar)
(Afternoon Cookie Break)
Class ending around 3:45pm

Location
123 Country Club Drive
Schererville, IN
219.322.3660

Planning to attend?  NANI members:  Please send or give your $15.00 non-refundable deposit to PatB to reserve your spot.  Non-members:  The entire $55 workshop fee is due at the time of registration.  For more info on how to register, send an email here.

The deadline to register is August 7, 2012.  The number of students is limited, so the sooner you reserve a spot the less likely it will be that the class is full.

*Terry Bay has never met a needlework technique she didn't like.  Like so many others, she began with cross stitch + progressed into hardanger embroidery, pulled + drawn thread work, blackwork, Ukrainian whitework, Roumanian point lace, & many others.

Her designing was born out of frustration over the very small amount of printed works on Ukrainian embroidery.  A born teacher, Terri has a degree in Music Education form Indiana State University.  She has taught music + needlework in many forms, including her popular Ukrainian whitework classes at the Nordic Needle Retreat in Fargo, ND.

She is a member of the St. Paul Needleworkers Chapter of the EGA.

She currently lives in Minnesota with her husband, three daughters, and a very tubby cat.

*  Terri Bay loves all types of needlework, but has a true passion for counted thread techniques. She adores Hardanger, Ukrainian and Pulled/Drawn Thread work. She also enjoys construction boxes and toys and is becoming quite fond of Romanian Point Lace. Terri lives in Minnesota with her husband and three daughters and a very tubby cat.

BarbB, NancyH, PatL, CindyL, & CherylM took a week-end class sponsored by Tomorrow’s Heirlooms Needlework.

This was a Shepherd's Bush class. Teri & Tina designed a rather large sampler & a cute pincushion for the event.
