Correspondence Courses for 2012

Correspondence Courses for 2012

In its continuing mission to stimulate the appreciation of embroidery and to advance the highest standards of excellence in the practice of embroidery, EGA offers many educational opportunities through its Correspondence Courses. Chapters are not able to offer every course that would meet all the interests of every member of their group. To that end, the GLR underwrites the cost of a selected group of classes each year that will allow chapter members to pursue their interests without having to form a group from their home chapter. The GLR CC Coordinator serves as the liaison between the class participants and the designers/teachers. You will not have a local group leader and you will be stitching on your own.

Registration Deadline: November 1, 2011

You will receive your manuals in January or Feburary 2012.

To cover shipping, there is a $5 charge for the first book and $1 for each additional book. Up to four books may be checked out at a time for up to four weeks.

While sorting and re-shelving the 2400+ volumes housed in the library, many duplicate titles and non-embroidery-focused books were set aside for deaccession in order to make room for new additions. These titles are available for purchase through the online retailer Amazon.com. There are currently almost 300 books listed with more being added on a daily basis, many priced as low as $1.99. Visit our Amazon Store to shop our available titles.

Extra Kit

Yesterday afternoon, I pulled out required floss and opened up my Biscornu Stackers kit. The materials are lovely.

In addition to the pattern with buttons and overdye fiber --- Sue put together the rest of our ingredients for this autumn project: linen, Soie 100/3, (2) Perle Cottons, beads, and two needles. Ribbon to tie up the biscornu stacks will be handed out during the next class. Your finished project will look like this:

Terrific! I had the suggested floss already + how wonderful to have everything else ready to stitch. I appreciate the large diagrams!

Part Two of this class will follow the September chapter meeting. Plenty of time to get the squares stitched up. The motifs are charming (IMO) squirrels, acorns, leaves, flowers.

Per Sue D, there is ONE more kit. If you are interested in purchasing, contact her asap (or email Needle Artisans.) The fee is $22.00, checks made payable to Needle Artisans of Northwest Indiana.

IRVING, Texas, May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Michaels Stores, Inc. has learned that PIN pad tampering may have occurred in its Chicago-area stores and that customer credit and debit card information may have been compromised.

Vote for EGA

Feel free to forward this on to friends and family.

Ok, ladies, for those of you who have a Facebook account, you may not be aware, but Chase Bank is giving away $5,000,000 to charity organizations. Voting has started for Round 1, and the top 100 vote-getting charities will receive $25,000 each.

EGA, Inc. is one of the charities eligible for this. Unfortunately, as I write this, EGA has NO VOTES!!! Go to

http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/charities/202716275-operat\
ion-homefront-inc?src=vote_share

tion-homefront-inc?src=vote_share
> and go to
"Find Charities", and enter "Embroiderers Guild of America", and click on the link.
You will need to click on "Like" for Chase Community Giving before you can vote the first time.

Spread the word among your friends. You do need to have a Facebook account. Even though first round voting ENDS MAY 4, if we work at this, we can push EGA into the top 100 very quickly. When you vote at Chase Community Giving, you will have 10 votes available during this first round. You can vote only once per charity.

REMEMBER, VOTE BY WEDNESDAY, MAY 4. IT ONLY TAKES A COUPLE OF
MINUTES!!
