Quilting Bees

From the Lake Co Parks website:

Quilting Bees

Deep River County Park on the fourth Sunday of the month

Sunday, August 22, September 26, October 24
1-4 p.m.

Free

Just like apple pie and baseball, quilting is truly an American tradition. Volunteers continue to enjoy this craft by donating blocks and assembling them into a unique piece of art. They have worked through the spring and summer sewing blocks for their next quilt, The Honey Bee.

The ‘Friendship Star’ quilt may be seen as it nears completion, after which it will join other recently-completed quilts, ‘The Corn Quilt’, ‘The House Quilt’, ‘Sunbonnet Sue’, ‘Goodie Jars in Grandma’s Pantry - Food’, ‘Goodie Jars in Grandma’s Pantry - Other’, and ‘Lotsa-Potsa Flowers’, currently on exhibit throughout Wood’s Historic Grist Mill.

Stop by during a Quilting Bee, sit a spell, or put in your own stitches.

Casual Kimono from Mid 20th-Century Japan

Katherine Kusler's collection of daily wear kimono from the 1920s to 1960s veers away from the high art of traditional Japanese kimono to showcase garments of a distinctly modern sensibility & style.
The bold motifs, bright colors, and sense of whimsy of these kimono capture the spirit & lingering influence of Japan's own Roaring Twenties

In addition to the kimono collection,
Sadao Watanabe(Japanese print maker)
prints will be on display

Reminders from Renee ....

Hello Everyone,

Just a few reminders for the Tuesday, August 3rd general meeting regarding the Exhibit. This will be the last opportunity to hand your entry forms to Beth V. The deadline To turn them in is August 18th so if you can't be at the meeting please be sure to put your forms in the mail soon.

(Forms available at chapter meetings + in the Flying Finger Newsletter)

Make as many copies of it as you need. At last report there were 55 entries.

Also we will be having an exhibit committee meeting after the general meeting about 8:00 p.m. for an hour. Please join us.

If you have an Opportunity Drawing item, please bring it to the meeting. We will be photographing it for promotional materials. Ticket sales for the opportunity drawing will begin at the September general meeting. At last report we had three items for the Opportunity Drawing.

Unfinished ornaments for the exhibit fundraiser are also due by August 18th to Sue D, Karen U, Claudia C, or Chris R. If you plan to finish them yourself you can bring them to the September general meeting.

As follow up to the Perfect Angle Framing Fundraiser, we did have eight members participate and earned $101.00. Thank you to all who participated. We will be trying the fundraiser again next year. Sandy of the Perfect Angle asked me to pass along to you that she is having a sale August 1-22. If you bring in an item for framing during that time you can choose a shell from her sand box which may contain a 10%, 20% or 30% off coupon on the framing supplies. So if you missed the fundraiser now is your chance to frame that item you've always wanted to frame!

Finally, remember to check the NANI blog "Flying Fingers Plus" often.
